After the 4th of July, it sometimes feels like it’s the beginning of the end (of summer). The subsequent weekends seem to fly by and before we know it, it’s Labor Day and we’re shopping Back-to-School sales. But let’s not give up on summer so quickly. Rise and let your artistic creation shine at the Ocean City Sand Sculpting Contest, running from 9am to 11am on this Thursday, Aug 1st. Registration is FREE and judging takes place by 11:00am. For more information call 609-399-6111. Don’t forget to celebrate your victory with some of the city’s famous Thrasher’s french fries for lunch and Fractured Prune doughnuts for dessert!
Join competitors of all ages and abilities for a Calisthenics Competition at the Coney Island Beach & Boardwalk on Saturday, August 3rd. The event is FREE but registration is required. If calisthenics aren’t your thing, you can join clinics and recreational games of volleyball, crossnet, flag football, ultimate frisbee, and soccer.
Let’s face it, some days it’s hot and you’d rather be a spectator, living vicariously through other athletes and taking in the scene. If cheering the competitors is more your speed, check out the USA Beach Rugby matches Aug 24th in Virginia Beach. Youth and adult teams of both genders will compete for victory.
Overlapipng with USA Beach Rugby is the Virginia Beach FunkFest Beach Party on August 23rd and 24th. The event will feature FREE concerts, great food, and arts and crafts on the beach, boardwalk, and park at 24thStreet.
Lastly, summer competitions that are a throwback to childhood are sure to warm your spirit before heading into a crisp fall season. So, don’t miss out on the opportunity to relive your carnival game glory days at the World Championship Skeeball Tournament in Wildwood, NJ. Event takes place Saturday, August 31st.
